Instant Messaging

IMs, allow for instant communication to anyone in the same city, in a different state, or anywhere in the world.IM’s is alternative to long-distance telephone service for small business owners who need to communicate with clients in real-time. You can keep in contact with family and friends when not in the same city, state, or country, and make new friends from all around the world. I have not done any IM for some time now, but if I did, I would use Yahoo instant messaging service.

Skype

Skype is free for video calling, and just calling from Skype to Skype. However, it is not free if there are 3 or more people doing a video call or if you are dialing any kind of phone that isn’t using Skype app.  I found no practical use for this as the other person would have to be in front of their computer to be able to answer the call. You can place calls to other numbers for so much a minute, so it is not free. I have never found the novelty in it.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn

Many people use LinkedIn as a way to display a “public” résumé; a place where they can send a potential employer to see their accomplishments and skillset. The most use you will get out of having a profile for yourself on LinkedIn, is strictly Business-to-Business marketing. It is a place where another business owner can recommend your services to others, having worked with you in the past. LinkedIn helps you stay up-to-date with industry trends and share information with others who do similar work to you.  LinkedIn gives me an opportunity to learn. I get to read views, which makes me wonder and think about my goals, vision & strategies.

Preparation of Students for the Future?

The presentation is a remarkable way to show the world and especially students how important it is to "keep up with the times". It is also scary because not every child will be prepared enough to be successful in the modern world. This just goes to show if you don't keep up with the world around you it is not going to wait for you.I believe parents can start by not allowing their children spend 10,000 hours playing video games instead they should let their children spend that time in learning constructive things.

Technology Makes Our Lives Easier

The video presented a clear view of how integral technology has become in education and the development of a global society. Countries such as India and china are advancing quite rapidly, with more than double our number of college graduates. Programs such as One Laptop Per Child are spreading technology to more and more children each day. This is a great thing for the global community It's amazing how so many people overlook how much technology has affected today's society. We no longer have to write letters when we can simply send an e-mail.

The Essential Shift

It makes me wonder what will happens years from now and if the future generation will be able to keep up with the pace. It would be great if there were enough computers for every school district, but we’re not fortunate enough to have that yet. However, if we were then children would have more hands on experience from younger age to expand their computer skills further on. This would be very helpful for their future.
